The Dream Team

The early Greeks believe that the world is made up of 4 elements: Air, Earth, Fire and Water (interestingly, the Chinese added one more – Metal). Each of these elements have their characteristics and together makes up the building blocks of the world.

In the same way, a dream management team in any company is likely to comprise people with all 4 elements. Wise is the boss who makes sure he hires people to make up for his missing elements.

Air gives life to all around it, inflames Fire (making it more ferocious) and is absorbed by Water, enabling it to support more life in the process. It is shaped by Earth but unfortunately tends to weaken Earth in the process (oxidisation). The Air manager tends to fit easily into many situations, and has a quality about him that enables a lot of projects to move and succeed.

Earth provides form and stability. It provides the basic building blocks of any structure, and is the basis of their being. It contains and absorbs water, provides fuel for fire (enabling it to continue to burn) and shapes Air (but tends to be weakened by it in the process). The Earth manager is stable and seen as a source of strength within the organisation, even setting its vision and direction. It is easily the only element that can stand by itself if possible.

Fire must be handled with great care but is easily the most powerful of the elements, able to consume both Air and Earth to burn even brighter. Water cools it down and redirects its destructive powers. The Fire manager provides much energy and power for the move of the organisation, and enables the organisation to forge new directions, new products and customers.

Water has no form and shape, but has strong healing properties. Much of its strength is inner, and takes time, but when fueled substantially by another element (especially Fire), can be very destructive. It is contained by Earth, becomes more powerful when working with Air and cools down the destructive tendencies of Fire. The Water manager is diplomatic and soothes many hot tempers. Unfortunately, without the other elements he is very weak.

A company with such a dream team can easily take on any competitor and do well!
